Will the Oral Appliance be comfortable?
Yes-Midwest dental sleep center has successfully treated 10s of thousands of patients, and our highly trained providers are all diplomates of the American board of dental Sleep Medicine. We use the most advanced digital technology to ensure a comfortable fit. Unlike over the counter, i.e., non-custom oral appliances, the custom oral appliances we deliver fit precisely to ensure nightly comfort and effectiveness. A small percentage of patients experience minor discomfort at the beginning of therapy, which is normal. The minor discomfort will often dissipate with regular usage. If discomfort persists, the patient may contact our clinical care team at 312-676-9893, prompt #three and speak to a clinical care coordinator. We are often able to provide recommendations to alleviate any minor discomfort.
Will the Oral Appliance work for me?
We adhere to the practice parameters established by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine for the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliances. We evaluate our patients on a regular basis for the first few months they are treating their sleep related breathing disorder per our oral appliance therapy program. Once the patient has acclimated to their treatment, we refer the patient for a follow up sleep test to determine the efficacy. In collaboration with our providers, the patient’s physician(s) review the results, next steps and modify the treatment plan when needed.
Will wearing an Oral Appliance change my bite and/or shift my teeth?
Over time, oral appliance therapy may cause minor tooth movement or subtle changes in your bite. To help minimize these effects, we instruct all patients on the use of a custom-made morning repositioners. Morning repositioners are thin, custom fabricated splints inserted into the mouth approximately 30 minutes after removing the appliance each morning. Patients gently bite into the repositioner for about five minutes to help guide the jaw back to its natural position.
May I use my Oral Appliance without having the Prevident prescription filled?
No.
